Rapiers

Rapiers have long, narrow blades and protective hilts, but individual models differ considerably in construction. The group includes full-size rapiers, antiqued versions and main gauche daggers designed to accompany selected lines. A historical name alone does not establish whether a piece is decorative, collectible or intended for another stated purpose.

Hanwei examples include the Gustav, Solingen, Torino and Taza Cup Hilt lines, several of which also have antiqued versions. Cold Steel Cavalier Rapier and Windlass Steelcrafts models are also represented. Length, weight, balance, steel and the supplied scabbard must be checked for each item.

Start with the purpose stated on the product page. Then compare overall and blade length, weight, hilt construction and scabbard. When pairing a rapier with a main gauche, check the exact line and finish because a similar style does not guarantee a match.

Display and care

Protect the blade and metal hilt parts from moisture and fingerprints. Antiqued finishes, wood, leather and metal can require different cleaning methods. Store a rapier on a stable stand or in its scabbard as directed, without placing weight on the guard or other delicate components.
