Throwing knives

Throwing knives are designed for controlled practice, but they differ in size, weight, shape and balance. The category includes individual knives, solid metal throwers and multi-piece sets. Some sets have a shared case, while other models require a separately matched sheath.

Cold Steel examples include Mini Flight Sport, True Flight, Sure Balance, Perfect Balance and Pro Flight Sport, as well as the Torpedo thrower. United Cutlery has Hibben Thrower and Large Triple Warrior sets. A line name helps to match a sheath, but does not confirm compatibility between similarly sized models.

Choosing practice equipment

Compare length, weight per piece, thickness and handle shape. For a set, check the number of knives and the type of case. Equipment should match the practice venue rules, target type and experience level set by the instructor.

Safe practice

Practise only in a prepared area with a suitable target and secured surroundings. Before each session, check every knife for bending, cracks or chips. Remove damaged equipment from use. After practice, clean and dry the metal and return the set to its proper case.
