Historical knives

Historical knives combine replicas and modern interpretations of designs associated with different periods. The group includes military knives, kukri, bayonets, Bowie knives and seax forms. A model name may indicate its inspiration, but does not establish the age of the item, exact historical accuracy or manufacturing method.

Examples include KA-BAR USMC The Legend, Traditional BhojPure and WWI Issue Vintage kukri, the Fairbairn-Sykes Commando Knife, 1907 Bayonet and M1 Bayonet Garand. Cold Steel models include the 1917 Frontier Bowie, 1849 Rifleman's Knife, Woodsman's Sax and Chieftan Sax. Museum Replicas, Atlanta Cutlery and Windlass Steelcrafts products are also represented.

History and construction

Choose the period or type relevant to the collection, then check the stated purpose of the individual piece. Compare length, steel, blade geometry, handle material and sheath. For a bayonet, do not assume firearm or mounting compatibility without an express maker statement.

Material care

Steel, wood, leather and antiqued finishes need separate care. Clean and dry the blade after handling and inspect the sheath for moisture. Do not use a metal treatment on leather or wood without checking the instructions. Store the knife securely with its edge protected.
