Synthetic training weapons
This category contains synthetic training models shaped like knives, swords, daggers, axes, staffs and other forms. A synthetic material can remove the hazard of a sharp edge, but it does not make every product soft or safe for unrestricted contact. Purpose and practice rules must follow the description and instructor decision.
Examples include Cold Steel knife trainers, Hand and a Half, Medieval and Gladius training swords and rubber sai. Brands in this category include Cold Steel, GOODS.PL, Red Dragon Armoury and United Cutlery. When choosing a specific model, consider its construction and intended use rather than the brand alone.
How to choose
Match form, length, weight and rigidity to the exercise and participant experience. Check whether the model is described for solo work, controlled drills or another activity. Required protection and contact rules are set by the instructor, not by the product name alone.
- material, rigidity, length and weight
- training type stated by the maker
- absence of cracks, burrs and exposed components
- instructor requirements and protective equipment
Care and storage
Before each session inspect the surface, tip, handle and joints. Remove any cracked or deformed trainer from use. Clean synthetics with a mild product consistent with instructions and store them away from temperatures that can cause distortion.
