Fixed blade knives

Fixed blade knives have a blade permanently joined to the handle and do not use a folding mechanism. The category combines compact models, larger field knives, survival, tactical and hunting designs and collectible pieces. They differ in tang construction, blade profile, edge geometry, handle material and carrying method.

Examples include Glock 78 and 81, Cold Steel OSS and Safe Maker models and Hibben knives. When choosing a specific model, consider its construction and intended use rather than the brand alone.

How to choose

Start with the stated purpose and required size. A light field knife, collectible piece and tactical styled design should not be judged by one set of criteria. Also check whether the supplied sheath suits the intended method of safe storage.

Care and storage

Clean and dry the blade and protect corrosion-prone steel with a recommended product. Not every coating or handle tolerates the same treatment. The sheath should also be checked for moisture and debris.
