Martial arts
The martial arts section includes training equipment, uniforms, footwear, protection, bags and educational materials, together with many groups of training weapons. It covers bokken, shinai, bo and jo staffs, sai, tonfa, kama, fans, wooden, foam and synthetic designs, plus Japanese, Chinese and fencing categories. Brands include GOODS.PL, Hanwei, Cold Steel, Red Dragon Armoury, Citadel and United Cutlery.
The discipline and class format are the starting points. A uniform, protector and training weapon answer different needs even though they share one section. Bokken, shinai, a bo staff and a fan are not substitutes for one another. Each has its own dimensions, material and contact limits for a particular form of practice.
Main categories
- Personal equipment: uniforms, footwear, protectors and training armour
- Training weapons: wooden, foam and synthetic models with a maker stated purpose
- Japan and China: separate sword and traditional form sections
- Staffs and short forms: bo, jo, sai, tonfa, kama, bokken and shinai
- Fencing: weapons and equipment placed in a separate practice branch
- Accessories and learning: bags, cases, exercise equipment, books and films
Where to start
Equipment should match the discipline, class programme and instructor requirements. A similar shape does not imply the same flexibility, weight or contact resistance. For training weapons, check material, length, weight, construction and the expressly stated scope of use. Uniforms and protection should follow the size guide and school rules. Before purchase, confirm that the specific model is accepted by the training organiser.
Compare equipment dimensions and material with the instructor requirements, and match clothing or protection to the relevant size chart. Inspect surfaces, joints and covers as well. A collectible with a similar shape does not belong in practice unless its maker expressly describes it for that use.
Care and storage
After practice, inspect equipment for cracks, delamination, sharp edges, loose parts and worn coatings. Wood, foam, synthetics, textiles and metal require different cleaning and drying methods. Damaged equipment should not be used for contact. A collectible item from a related section does not become a training tool because of its shape; use only products expressly intended for practice and accepted by the instructor.
