Karambit knives
A karambit is recognised by its curved blade and handle ring, but the name covers several different constructions. The category includes folders, fixed blades, lightweight synthetic designs and training versions. Differences concern the mechanism, blade profile, material, size and carrying method.
Examples include Cold Steel Steel Tiger, Double Agent I and Karambit Trainer, United Honshu Kerambit, M48 Apocalypse Karambit, CRKT Provoke Kinematic and Gil Hibben designs. Some have a sheath, harness or clip, while others use a folding lock. Supplied equipment must be checked for the specific version.
Construction matters
Separate training versions from edged models and do not assume that a similar shape means the same purpose. For a folder, check the lock and opening method. With a fixed blade, compare sheath retention, ring position and handle comfort for your own hand.

Handling and care
The ring does not replace a secure grip or careful handling. Keep the blade and sheath clean, and inspect the pivot and lock on a folding model. Check training equipment for cracks or sharp edges before practice. The instructor should set the rules for its use.
