Protection and training armour
Protective equipment must match the discipline, type of practice and organiser requirements. This group contains masks and head guards, gloves, knee and shin protection, plus bucklers and shields used in selected forms of training. Each product protects a different area and does not replace the complete kit required for a class.
Red Dragon Armoury provides fencing masks, sparring gloves and knee and shin protectors. The group also includes GOODS.PL head guards, Hanwei Combat Helmet, Windlass Steelcrafts and Cold Steel bucklers and the Soldiers Targe shield. Only the named Red Dragon HEMA Tournament mask carries a 1600N designation, which must not be generalised to other models.
Matching the discipline
Check the size guide, adjustment range and area protected by the product. Then confirm any required standard or rating against the class rules. A buckler, mask and gloves serve different purposes and should be assessed separately as parts of a complete equipment set.
- discipline and organiser rules
- size, circumference and adjustment
- protected area and fit with other equipment
- ratings stated for the specific model
Checks before practice
Before practice, inspect for cracks, dents, abrasion and damaged straps or fasteners. A damaged item should not return to contact use without assessment by the person responsible for the class. Synthetics, textiles, leather and steel need different cleaning methods. Dry the equipment thoroughly before storage.
