Kama
A kama has a handle with a transverse working section, but products in this group differ in material, length, weight and stated purpose. There are models for the practice or competition described by the maker, a Honshu design with sheath, and a separate case. Identify whether the product is equipment or an accessory before comparing it.
The basic Kama and Elite Competition Kama have working sections of about 14.5 or 16.5 cm and handles of 30 or 36 cm. Honshu Karito Kama measures 40 cm and weighs 580 g. The black case is 59 cm long and must be matched to the dimensions of the complete set.
Equipment or case
Match kama to the discipline and instructor rules. Compare handle and working-section length, weight and material. For a model with a sheath, check retention. For a separate case, check dimensions and the number of items it holds. The word kama does not state whether an edge is sharp.

Equipment inspection
Before practice, inspect the handle, working-section joint, surfaces and covers. Looseness, cracks or sharp damage require removing the equipment. Store kama securely and separately from items with another purpose. Place only clean and dry components in the case.
