Training knives
Training knives reproduce the shape of selected models without a sharpened blade. The category includes flexible rubber designs and balisong trainers with a blunt working section. They differ in length, stiffness, weight and handle details. A training label does not mean that every model is suitable for every form of contact.
Cold Steel trainers include Peace Keeper, Recon, Black Bear Classic, Military Classic, Leatherneck-SF, Laredo Bowie and several Trench Knife profiles. Bear & Son supplies black and silver butterfly trainers in sizes 4 and 5. A trainer may resemble an edged counterpart, but its material and behaviour in practice are different.
Equipment for the class
Match length, weight and stiffness to the class programme and instructor requirements. For a balisong trainer, inspect pivot action, handle shape and the absence of a sharp edge. Use only equipment accepted by the instructor for contact practice.

Inspecting training equipment
Before practice, inspect for cracks, delamination, sharp burrs and loose parts. Remove damaged equipment from use. Clean rubber and synthetics gently and maintain a balisong mechanism according to its instructions. Store training equipment separately from edged models to prevent confusion.
