Display stands and mounts
A stand or mount must suit the dimensions, weight and display position of the specific item. The category includes low table stands for one or several katana, vertical displays, wall racks and supports for tachi or selected polearms. The number of tiers does not establish support spacing or load capacity.
Examples include lacquered Japanese displays, natural wood stands, the vertical Shogun Wood Stand and racks for three, four or eight swords. Hanwei also has dedicated tachi and quandao supports. GOODS.PL, Master Cutlery and United Cutlery products differ in size, material and mounting method.
Choosing a display
Measure the item where it will rest on the stand and compare this with the support spacing. For a wall display, account for the wall material and suitable fixings rather than relying on the photograph. Check stability separately for an asymmetric hilt or a heavy scabbard.
- number of displayed items
- support spacing, width and height
- weight of the sword and scabbard
- table, vertical or wall mounting
Safe display
Place a stand on a level surface and inspect wall fixings periodically. Contact surfaces must be clean and should not scratch the blade or scabbard finish. Clean wood and lacquer with a mild product suited to the material. Keep the displayed item away from areas where it can be knocked accidentally.
