Axes
This group combines axes inspired by historical finds, fantasy designs and war hammers. They differ in haft length, head shape, steel, weight and finish. Names such as Danish axe, Viking axe or Francesca refer to a form, but do not establish the manufacturing method or purpose of every item in the category.
Hanwei examples include the Viking Axe, Bearded Axe, Mammen Axe and Danish War Axe. Cold Steel contributes the War Hammer and other long designs, while United Cutlery has Kit Rae Black Legion pieces. Windlass Steelcrafts models are also represented. Measurements may describe the head, edge, hammer face or entire item, so read them in the context of the product page.
Choosing a model
First establish whether the item is intended for collecting, display, training or another purpose expressly stated by the maker. Compare total weight, haft length, head dimensions and the way the head is fitted. A sheath or edge cover may be supplied, but this must be confirmed separately.
- purpose stated for the model
- weight and overall length
- head shape, steel and dimensions
- haft, grip and edge cover
Maintenance and storage
Clean and dry the metal head after exposure to moisture, using a product suitable for its finish. A wooden or synthetic haft may need different care. Inspect the head-to-haft connection regularly. Store the item securely with the edge protected and away from accidental access.
