Martial arts fans

A training fan is used in selected kung fu forms and other martial arts practice. Its appearance is part of the design, but dimensions, weight, folding action and the instructor's requirements matter more when choosing one. The examples here are a black fan with a ninja motif and a red Kung Fu fan decorated with a dragon and Ying Yang design.

The listed dimensions for the red model are 33 by 60 cm, with a weight of 0.45 kg. Those figures should not be applied automatically to the black version, as each fan may use a different construction. Compare the full open size, folded length and weight on the individual product page. If the fan is intended for a particular routine, show its specification to the instructor first.

Practice and storage

Begin by opening and closing the fan slowly in a space with plenty of clearance. The teacher should determine pace and technique. Before class, inspect every rib, connection and section of fabric. A loose part, crack or sharp damaged edge is a reason to put the fan aside until it has been repaired.

After practice, remove dust with a soft, dry cloth. Store the folded fan where other equipment cannot crush it. Moisture and strong heat may harm the material or joints, so the cleaning method should always match the construction of the particular model.
