Hanwei Wind & Thunder Katana

Designed for practitioners who need more than a display piece, the Hanwei Wind and Thunder Katana is a Japanese sword built to handle serious target cutting. Compared with Hanwei's standard katana models, this one carries a noticeably thicker and heavier blade, giving it the mass and durability required for repeated tameshigiri sessions and batto-jutsu drills.

The blade is hand-forged from T10 high-carbon steel, a material valued for its hardness and edge retention under repeated impact. The fittings follow traditional Japanese sword-making conventions: the tsuka (handle) is wrapped in genuine same (rayskin) beneath a tsuka-ito of premium Japanese black cotton. The tsuba, the round handguard, is crafted from blackened stainless steel and decorated with Raiden, the Japanese god of thunder also known as Raijin. The fuchi and kashira, the handle fittings, echo the theme with a matching tomoe motif. The saya (scabbard) is finished in traditional black lacquer and fitted with a black cotton sageo.

This katana suits martial artists training in batto-jutsu and tameshigiri as well as collectors looking for a functional, traditionally built Japanese sword. It pairs with the matching Wind and Thunder Wakizashi (SH5024) and Wind and Thunder Tanto (SH5003) for those completing a full daishō set.
